Tokyo Airport
Heathrow to Tokyo flights will arrive at Tokyo Narita Airport. This airport is now the main hub for international flights coming into Japan, despite the fact it was originally built to support the originally larger Tokyo International Airport. Despite a controversial development due to the need to acquire land, by the 1980s many of the major carriers had relocated their hubs at Narita, and expansion has continued with the extension of both runways and a new passenger terminal in the 1990s.
Parking facilities in and around Tokyo Narita Airport
Car parking on site is available for up to three days at a half-hourly rate, and is available longer charged per half day. Each terminal’s car park is located directly in front of the terminal building, with terminal two’s car parks split into separately marked areas.
Airport distance from Tokyo and other notable surrounding locations
The airport is located around 65 km to the east of central Tokyo. However, the airport’s namesake, the town of Narita is also worth visiting, and is developing as a popular visitor location, this can be reached in about 10 minutes by train from the airport or around 30-40 minutes by car/coach. Some of the attractions here include an ancient temple (Naritasan Shinshō-ji), a science museum and some outstanding parks.
Transport links to Tokyo
Both of the airport’s terminals have a train station, offering regular trains direct to Tokyo Central. Ordinary services are operated by Keisei Electric Railway and JR East. The JR East service includes the Narita Express, which offers the quickest time to Tokyo in 60 to 90 minutes, with trains operating every half hour. The Keisei Skyliner service also offers a quick way to north Tokyo, with connections available to central/south Tokyo.
Buses offer the cheapest method into central Tokyo (around 2500 to 4000 Yen), but times can vary widely because of traffic in the area, although several hours journey should be expected. A taxi ride is usually prohibitively expensive, with an average journey costing around 25,000 Yen. The airport sometimes has details of fixed fare operators often charging just below 20,000 however.
Conference and other business facilities at Tokyo Narita Airport
Copy and fax facilities are available from several companies located in terminal two, floors one and two and the basement. Conference facilities are available at adjacent hotels such as the Radisson Hotel Narita, offering conference facilities for up to 400 delegates, and internet and private meeting room facilities.
