London Heathrow to Venice Flights
Heathrow Airport
Not only is Heathrow the starting point of journeys to historic destinations, such as flights to Venice, it is an historically significant site in its own right. 80,000 objects up to 10,000 years old were uncovered in 2003 during excavation work for the new terminal five. Some of these finds have been exhibited at the Heathrow Visitors’ Centre, which can be visited as part of a trip from Heathrow to Venice.
Airlines flying to Venice
Flights going direct from London Heathrow to Venice are offered by BMI only, offering five to ten flights per week. Flights interchanging at Paris Charles de Gaulle are the most popular alternative, with services offered by Air France.
Venice Airport
Flights to Venice bring you to Venice Marco Polo Airport, which was built in the 1960s on the site of a significant land fill scheme, which recovered a quarter of the size of a previous lagoon. It has been modernised in recent years, and has become the region’s primary airport, over Venice Treviso Airport.

The airport contains over 5000 spaces, and the airport offers up to date information on space availability. There are short and long stay facilities available with different rates for covered and open air parking.
Airport distance from Venice and other notable surrounding locations
The airport is located ten miles from the centre of Venice, and is also accessible to destinations like Tessera and Campalto.
Transport links to Venice
The airport does not have a direct train link, however, the ‘Fly Bus’ service links the airport with the train stations at Venezia-Mestre and Venezia-Santa Lucia. These buses depart from outside the terminal building. The major road link between the airport and Venice itself is the SS 14 route going towards Trieste. It is perhaps quicker to go by boat to Venice, and whilst they are a common mode of transport in the area, a trip by water taxi can provide one of the most memorable aspects of a trip to the area. These usually depart every ten minutes and regular free shuttle buses make the trip from the airport to the water taxi boarding point. The cheapest option is the half hourly bus service, which takes about half an hour to reach the centre of venice, costing less than five Euros.
Additionally, the airport offers helicopter trips, which can be to nearby locations such as Lido di Jesolo or sightseeing round trips. Journeys to Treviso and Padua cost around 100 Euros.
Conference and other business facilities at Venice Airport
The recent renovations that have been made to the airport include new conference facilities for over 2000 delegates. The Travelex Business Centre also has meeting rooms and modern equipment available, as well as on-site human support and translation facilities. The airport offers a WiFi service in most areas of the terminal building, and access is provided via a prepaid voucher which can be bought from the shopping area of the terminal.
