Flights to Stockholm

London Heathrow to Stockholm flights

Overview of Heathrow
Heathrow is the busiest airport in the world based on international passenger figures, having carried 68 million in 2007. Whilst this means the airport can become extremely busy, it also has excellent direct links to primary airports all over the world, including a range of flights to Stockholm.

Heathrow to Stockholm
Flights from London Heathrow to Stockholm are operated by British Airways and Scandinavian Airlines (SAS). However, for UK customers, flights with SAS can be made and handled via BMI. Both British Airways and BMI/SAS offer around 25 flights per week each straight from Heathrow to Stockholm, at a range of times throughout the day.

Stockholm-Arlanda Airport
Flights to Stockholm from Heathrow take you to Stockholm-Arlanda Airport, which is the biggest of Stockholm’s four airports, handling over 17 million passengers a year over three runways. The airport was first developed for passenger travel in the 1960s and gained new capacity for domestic flights in the 1980s.

Parking facilities in and around Stockholm-Arlanda Airport
For those taking flights to Stockholm, there are excellent parking facilities available. These consist of outdoor and multi storey car parks. These are located near to the shopping unit, or for a lower fee, at sites a little further from the airport connected by shuttle bus. The airport has also been innovative in encouraging the use of greener cars. Drivers of more efficient vehicles are allowed to use 200 specially provided spaces close to the airport at a special rate, which may be worth considering if you need to park closeby.

Stockholm-Arlanda distance from Stockholm
The nearest town to the airport is M?rsta, and the airport falls under its jurisdiction, rather than that of Stockholm itself. Despite most expansion having taken place since the formation of the airport in the 1960s, the town has medieval origins, with many examples of traditional Scandinavian architecture still intact. The airport is roughly equidistant from Stockholm itself and the town of Uppsala (Sweden’s fourth largest settlement) at about 40 km from each.

Transport links to Stockholm
The airport is well served by public transport, and the most direct method of reaching the centre of Stockholm is by train. The Arlanda Express service takes about twenty minutes to reach Stockholm Central.

There is also a shuttle bus that costs 150SEK and takes at least half an hour, with a guaranteed time of no more than 70 minutes. The cheapest method of getting to central Stockholm is by taking a bus (service 583) to M?rsta station, and taking a cheap train from there, a total journey of about an hour.

A taxi takes about 30 minutes, and all companies should be able to agree a fixed price before the journey, which will normally be about 450 SEK.

Conference and other business facilities at Stockholm-Arlanda Airport
On site, there are 50 conference rooms available, a large conference hall (capacity up to 1000), and 6,500 sq metres of exhibition space. The Airport also offers themed facilities, such as within a hangar, within the Sky City shopping area, or in a terminal, with full internal staff assistance
